When laundry detergents are described as more environmentally friendly, it means that they have a less negative impact on the environment. Sooner or later, every laundry detergent ends up in the environment and thus affects our ecosystem. These impacts can only be mitigated through targeted formulations. For example, everdrop's laundry detergent works with an innovative water hardness concept where the detergents are adapted to the consumer’s local water hardness. This means that fewer unnecessary chemicals are released into the environment, and the paper bags that the laundry detergents come in can also be recycled.

Eco does not necessarily mean that there are no animal components in a laundry detergent. Many manufacturers use lanolin (wool grease), beeswax, or ox gall, in the form of bile soap. So all you need to do is take a look at the detergents’ ingredients to identify whether they contain animal-based ingredients. If laundry detergents are explicitly labelled as vegan, for example with the Vegan Flower, you can immediately tell that a laundry detergent is free from animal-derived components. All everdrop laundry detergents are certified vegan.

Sodium sulphate is predominantly used as a filler in laundry detergents, to make it seem like there’s a larger amount of detergent than there really is. Manufacturers state that these fillers are supposed to have a positive influence on the flowability of a product. This statement is highly controversial, especially since these anti-caking agents are actually only found in large packages. Often, up to twice as much powder is used as necessary, leading to environmental pollution. This pollution is due to additives, such as sodium sulphate, which not only pollute sewage pipes, but that also cannot be broken down properly in sewage treatment plants. As a result, the salt gets into our waterways, increasing their salt load. All everdrop laundry detergents are completely free from fillers.
